Students File DDR Against Police Over Punjab University Protest Incident

Protesting students accuse police of mistreatment and violence during lathi charge at Punjab University.

Chandigarh. In a dramatic turn of events at Punjab University, students protesting over the Senate elections have filed a DDR (Daily Diary Report) against the police and the Chief Security Officer. The DDR has been filed by the 14 students against whom the Chief Security Officer had previously filed an FIR, accusing them of disrupting the Chief Minister’s program.

Allegations Against Police and Security Personnel
In their complaint, the students allege that during a lathi charge on Wednesday, female students were subjected to mistreatment by the police in the absence of female security officers. Furthermore, they accused DSP Gurmukh of threatening to open fire during the protest.

The students specifically targeted Vikram, alleging that he initiated the lathi charge during their peaceful protest, which led to chaos and panic. During a press conference outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, the students displayed photographs of the lathi charge, which showed the severity of the situation. The students clarified that they were not trying to obstruct the Chief Minister’s VIP movement but were only attempting to protest near the Vice-Chancellor’s office. However, they were stopped by barricades before they could reach their destination.

Current Status and Investigation
The police have not yet issued a public statement regarding the DDR filed by the students, and investigations are underway to determine the details of the altercation. The students have demanded a fair investigation into the police’s actions during the protest.
