1904 – Mohandas K. Gandhi arrested for leading Indian miners march in South Africa. (The shy young Indian lawyer who landed in the South African port city of Durban in 1893 was unsure of what the future held for him, and there was little in his personality to suggest that he had the leadership skills to lead a mass movement. Yet, some years later, when Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi returned to India, he was a fully-formed leader, supremely confident about his moral philosophy, and ready to take his country down the road to freedom).

1914 – The British land troops (mostly from the Indian Army) at the head of the Persian Gulf in Mesopotamia, and will begin to move westward in an attempt to draw Turkish troops from other fronts.

1950 – King Tribhuvana of Nepal flees to India.

1962 – National Defence Council established.

1979 – Ayatollah Khomeini takes over in Iran.

2016 – Indian government declares levels of air pollution in Delhi an emergency situation, closing schools and construction sites.

2018 – NASA’s Voyager 2 probe leaves the solar system, becoming the second human-made object to reach interstellar space.

2022 – Iranian government acknowledges sending a limited number of military drones to Russia in the months before the invasion of Ukraine.

1988 – Emme Jean Stone. British/US actor. Known for roles in Easy A, The Amazizing Spiderman, La La Land, Cruella, Won 2 Academy awards.

RIP….

1985 – Sanjeev Kumar,  (Haribhai Jariwala), very talented and  versatile Bollywood actor. He acted in Koshish, Parichay, Trishul, Devta,  Satyajit Ray’s  classic film  Shatranj Ke Khiladi,  Khilona, Naya Din Nayi Raat, Pati Patni Aur Voh, Ram Tere Kitne Naam,  Aandhi, Sholey,  Dastak, Mausam  etc. He was awarded 2Nationmal Awards, 4 Filmfare awards and several other honors.  (pic credit-Prime Vodeo)

The Greatest Depression:  This first worldwide economic downturn began in 1929 and lasted until about 1939. Next was in 1989 and last one in 2008-09 when most US and world top ecomies fell down, banks declared  insolvancy and fell down.  The 1929 was  was the most severe depression in the history of the industrialized Western world.
