Dabwali Becomes a High-Stakes Contest Devi Lal’s Family Faces Off

Haryana : The Dabwali assembly seat in Sirsa district is turning into a high-stakes battleground as members of the Chautala family face off against each other. The contest will see two uncles and a nephew from the Chautala family vying for the seat, creating a unique and intriguing political scenario.

The Congress party has fielded Amit Sihag, who is from Devi Lal’s lineage in Chautala village. The INLD has nominated Aditya Devi Lal, who is the grandson of former Deputy Prime Minister and former Haryana Chief Minister Devi Lal. Aditya’s opponent from the JJP is Digvijay Chautala, also a great-grandson of Devi Lal.

Aditya Devi Lal, who recently joined the INLD after leaving the BJP, has previously served as the Sirsa District President for the BJP and as Chairman of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (H.S.A.M.B.). In the 2019 assembly elections, Aditya, then a BJP candidate, was defeated by Amit Sihag by a margin of around 15,000 votes. Aditya’s father, Jagdish Chautala, is the younger son of Chaudhary Devi Lal.

Aditya’s recent departure from the BJP came after the party failed to include his name in the first list of 67 candidates announced on September 4. Disappointed by the BJP’s decision, he decided to join the INLD, adding further excitement to the Dabwali contest.

As the election approaches, the battle between these prominent family members will be closely watched, reflecting both personal rivalries and significant political stakes.
