BHOPAL: A jail guard claims on camera and in a letter to the legal authorities that Rambai Thakur’s only BSP MLA in Madhya Pradesh’s jailed relatives have used undue influence to bring drugs, alcohol, and even women (including prostitutes) onto the grounds of the Damoh District Jail.
While Rambai Thakur, a first-time BSP candidate for the Damoh district’s Pathariya seat, called the allegations made by jail guard Ram Kumar Shakya a political plot to discredit her months before the assembly elections, deputy superintendent of the Damoh district jail CL Prajapati said the concerned jail guard was making the false claims because he was dissatisfied with his attachment to the Bhopal Central Jail since more than a month ago.
The jail guard has claimed that at least four members of the jail’s security staff, including the head jail guard Pritam, are conspiring with under trial prisoner Kaushalendra Singh alias Chandu (the BSP MLA’s brother-in-law) and Chandu’s son Golu (both lodged in the jail in connection with the 2019 murder of Congress leader Devendra Chourasia), to ensure that the safety of the facility. The concerned jail guard also claimed that most of the CCTV cameras in the jail are either set at black point or even shut down, during the time when women from outside come and leave the jail premises, in the three-page communication that was sent to the legal authorities in the Damoh district, to ensure that the unrestricted passage of the banned substances, including narcotic drugs, alcohol, cell phones, and even women, never gets caught.
