Nora Fatehi says ‘most people in the industry’ get married for clout

Mumbai: Actor-dancer Nora Fatehi opened up about being bullied by superstars in the film industry, and implied that it is common knowledge that people in the industry get married for ‘clout’. Appearing on BeerBiceps, Nora said that she knows of many people who’ve hitched their wagon to someone on the up and up. Nora said that she has to be very careful about who she allows into her inner circle, because she’s wary of people wanting to be close to her for fame.

Nora said, “I see this happening in front of me. I see it in my industry, people get married for clout. People use these wives and husbands for networking and for circles, and relevance, and money. They think, ‘I have to get married to her so that I can stay relevant for the next three years because she’s got a few films releasing and they’re doing well at the box office, I need to ride that wave’. People are that calculating.”

Nora described these people as ‘predators’, and said that humans are motivated by sex, power, money and fame. “Guys and girls will destroy their whole personal life for money, fame, power, etc. Nothing is worse than getting married to someone you don’t even love, and live with them for years. Most of the people in our industry are doing that nonsense. Just because they want to be in the right camps and circles, and they want to be relevant. They don’t know where their career is going to go, so they want backup plans,” she said.

Nora admitted that she understands being worried about your career, but, she added, “I don’t understand sacrificing your personal life and your mental health and happiness. At the end of the day, work is work, and your home life is something else.” Nora said that she has wondered why she hasn’t been preyed upon by ‘predators’ in the industry, but chalked it down to her intimidating personality. In the same interview, she also spoke about her spiritual and religious side, and said that she hasn’t missed a Ramadan fast since the age of 14.
