Haryana’s first market for women SHGs to come up in Karnal
Karnal: In a step towards women empowerment, the Karnal district is all set to have the state’s first ‘Sanjhi Market’, which will be governed and operated by members of self-help groups (SHGs) and the Zila Parishad. The authorities said the step was being taken under the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission (HSRLM). The Chief Minister is likely to dedicate this project to the members of women self-help groups on February 24 during his proposed visit.
“Initially, 10 portacabins will be installed and an additional 10 open shops will be facilitated,” said Vivek Chaudhary, CEO, Zila Parishad, Karnal.
“We have made all arrangements for the inauguration of this market, which is dedicated to the members of the SHGs. The aim is to provide a platform for rural women entrepreneurs in the heart of the city to showcase their products and strengthen their economic status,” Chaudhary added.
“This market represents not just a marketplace, but a transformative space where women can thrive and contribute to the uplift of their families. We have engaged nearly 20 SHGs, having over 200 members, to sell their products,” said the CEO.
Deputy Commissioner, Anish Yadav, said that “Sanjhi Market” was the first-of-its-kind project in the state, which was a dream project of the CM of Haryana. “It is a pioneering initiative, and we are happy that Karnal is going to be the first district to start this initiative,” said the DC.
“It is a collaborative effort between the government and the women self-help groups in a commitment towards uplifting marginalised sections of society. Through this initiative, women will have the opportunity to market their handmade crafts, homemade goods, artisanal items and other food items like dairy products which they are now selling in the local market in villages. After the opening of this market, they will be able to sell their products from one place and they will not need to travel to other places to sell it,” said the DC.
