17 get life terms in 28-year-old double murder case
Hamirpur (UP): Seventeen people were sentenced to life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 30,000 each by a special court here on Tuesday in a 28-year-old double murder case, prosecution sources said.
Special Public Prosecutor Vijay Singh said that one Jaswant and Motilal were shot dead in Chakothi village under Kurara police station in the year 1994. “Jaswant’s brother Ramesh Chandra had lodged an FIR against 25 people, of which 5 died during trial of the case and three are still absconding,” he said.
Singh said that in his FIR Ramesh had said that while Jaswant was shot dead in front of his house, Motilal was chased and shot dead in the house of one Phoola. “Based on the records and testimony of the eye witnesses, Special Judge SC-ST Mohammad Aslam sentenced 17 accused, including Beer Singh, Jahar Singh, Bhishm Singh, Bharat, Maharaj, Bhoora, Indrapal, Pappu, Chutkai, Kamta, Shiv Badan, Vijay Singh, Omkar, Rajendra, Surendra, Arjun and Daddu, to life imprisonment,” he said.
The public prosecutor said that the court has also imposed a penalty of Rs 30,000 each on the accused. “The files of the three absconding accused have been separated,” he said. (UNI)
