CJI Ramana conferred Honorary doctorate by Acharya Nagarjuna Univ.
Vijayawada: Chief Justice of India N V Ramana was on Saturday conferred Honoris Causa ( an honorary doctorate) at the 37th and 38th Covocation of Acharya Nagarjuna University near here.
The 37th and 38th Convocation was held in the University auditorium in which Andhra Pradesh Governor & Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University Biswabhusan Harichandan participated.
Delivering the Convocation address, the Governor said National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, replaces the 34-year-old National Policy on Education (NPE) of 1986 and the NEP is built on the foundational pillars of Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability and Accountability. It is aligned with the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development.
He said that the NEP 2020 aims at transforming India into a vibrant knowledge society and global knowledge superpower by making both school and college education more holistic, flexible, multi-disciplinary, suited to 21st century needs and aimed at bringing out the unique capabilities of each student.
Harichandana further said that the NEP 2020 focuses on increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education including vocational education from 26.3% in (2018) to 50% by 2035 and 3.5 crore new seats will be added to Higher education institutions with an aim to ensure inclusive and equitable education system by 2030.
The Governor explained that a university can grow successfully only when research and teaching go together seamlessly and that we must ensure the development of a collaborative environment conducive to learning, exposure to the best international practices and promotion of innovation and creativity.
He congratulated the students who received their degrees and medals at the Convocation.
Justice Ramana who participated as the Chief Guest at the Convocation, was conferred the Honorary doctoral degree (Honoris Causa) by the University.
Speaking on the occasion, the CJI said he felt extremely privileged to receive an honorary doctoral degree from his own university.
He said that in modern independent India, education was not just a movement for self-enlightenment, it was a movement seeking social upliftment and economic revolution.
Justice Ramana further said that in a world shaped on science and technology, it is education that determines the level of prosperity, welfare, and security of the people.
Botcha Satyanarayana, State Minister for Education participated in the Convocation as Guest of Honour.
Earlier, Prof. P. Raja Sekhar, Vice Chancellor, presented the Annual Reports of the University.
Biswabhusan Harichandan was felicitated with a memento by Prof. P. Raja Sekhar, Vice Chancellor of the University. (UNI)
