PM condoles demise of former Army Chief Gen Rodrigues
New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condoled the death of former Army Chief Gen SF Rodrigues who passed away at Panjim, Goa. “Anguished by the passing away of General SF Rodrigues. The nation will remain indebted to him for his exceptional service and contribution towards making India stronger. He was respected for his deep strategic knowledge. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP,” the Prime Minister said in a tweet. Army Chief Gen MM Naravane too expressed heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of the General, who was the 15th Army Chief from 01 July 1990 to 30 June 1993. In addition to more than 40 years of illustrious service in the Army, Gen Rodrigues served two terms on the National Security Advisory Board and was Governor of Punjab between 2004 to 2010. He was an integral part of the proud fighting forces of the Nation during Sino-Indian War 1962, Indo-Pakistan War 1965 and Indo-Pak War 1971. General Rodrigues was also instrumental in induction of Women in the serving area of the Army in 1991, marking an important step towards empowering Women to serve the Country. The last rites of Gen Rodrigues are scheduled to be held at Moksha Crematorium St Inez Panaji, Goa on 07 Mar 22 at around 03:30 PM.
