New Delhi, Feb 7: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday requested AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi to accept the Z category security cover provided to him by the Home Ministry. Amit Shah made identical statements in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha regarding the incident of attack on the vehicle of Asaduddin Owaisi while crossing a toll in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh on February 3. “On several occasions in the past, the Central Government, on the basis of threat assessment by the central security agencies, had issued directions for providing security cover to Shri Owaisi. However, repeated endeavours of Delhi Police and Telengana Police did not succeed on account of his unwillingness to take security cover,” Amit Shah said. “Through this House I would like to request Shri Owaisi to accept the security cover and resolve our worries,” he said in the end. Giving out details, Shah informed Rajya Sabha that a review of threat perception of Owaisi has been undertaken and based upon inputs a Z category CRPF security cover on all India basis along with bullet proof car in Delhi was provided to him. “Owaisi did not have any pre-scheduled programme in the Hapur district, and neither did District Control Room have any prior information about his movement,” added Shah. He said that Owaisi escaped unhurt and had reached Delhi safely following the incident. The Home Minister also shared the details of the action taken by UP police in the incident. “The local police promptly arrested two accused and two unauthorised pistols (one from each) and one Alto car have been recovered. The forensic team is investigating the place of incident and vehicle, and evidence is being collected. Both the accused are being interrogated by UP Police,” the minister said. The law and order situation in the district is under control and normal and strict vigilance is being kept, he said. Rejecting the Z security cover, the AIMIM chief questioned the other day why UAPA was not invoked against the two attackers who fired at him.
