New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) Raising the issue of rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in Rajya Sabha on Friday, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka
Chaturvedi demanded that the government ensure their safe return and a dignified life for them. “It is a matter of concern that the rehabilitation process of Kashmiri Pandits has been painstakingly slow. In 2015, the Government had announced the construction of 6,000 transit accommodations for Kashmiri Pandit migrants for their return to the valley. However, only 15% of the work has been completed to date, according to the report of the department related parliamentary standing committee on Home Affairs,” she said. The Shiv Sena MP further said that the pace of construction of the accommodations has been slow. “This comes at a time when their struggle has been ongoing for 32 years and they have been living their lives in exile for more than three decades,” she said. The Shiv Sena MP further said that “it is unfortunate that despite the government’s big promises to bring the exiled community back to their homes in Jammu and Kashmir, no concrete and effective actions have been followed for their return, rehabilitation, and empowerment”. They have been fighting a battle to go back home for the past 32 years, the government must ensure their safe return and a dignified life for them, she said
