been able to forget the pain of the riots,” he said, adding that the victory march of BJP in the state in past elections has always started from western Uttar Pradesh. In 2017 Uttar Pradesh polls, BJP had won 66 of the 76 seats in western Uttar Pradesh. “Your one vote can bring mafia raj in Uttar Pradesh and the same vote can instead bring freedom from mafia raj. If SP-BSP government is formed, mafia raj will return, casteism will return,” he said. He also attacked the SP-RLD alliance, and questioned how long would the two remain together. “If their government is formed, Jayant ji will be out and Azam Khan will be back in government,” Shah said, referring to RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary. The Union Minister said with BJP government in Lucknow, there had been a 70 per cent reduction in dacoities in Uttar Pradesh, 69 per cent fall in cases of robbery, 30 per cent slide in murder cases and 35 per cent fall in cases of kidnapping. In the belt known as the ‘Sugar Bowl of India’, Shah also said the BJP government had paid about Rs 148,000 crore to sugarcane farmers. “Earlier, 21 sugar mills in the state were closed during the rule of SP and BSP,” he said. “Some farmers told me that sugarcane payment gets delayed… We are going to announce that the interest for the delay will be recovered from that mill and this will be paid to the farmers.” He later also went on a door-to-door campaign in New Sharda Nagar of Saharanpur. BJP President JP Nadda also campaigned in Uttar Pradesh and went to Etawah, Auraiya and Bareilly. Addressing a rally in Etawah, Nadda attacked farmer leaders and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked for the farmers. “People, who have never done any good to the farmers, are also roaming around with fists filled with grains. Many people tried to become farmer leaders, many called themselves farmer leaders, but no one has done the work that Modi ji did for the farmers,” he said. The elections in Uttar Pradesh will take place on February 10, 14 , 20, 23, 27, March 3 and 7.
