Sinister Attacks on Indian Democracy

The Supreme Court of India is also likely to take up petition on the lapse in PM's security in Punjab

The Blockade of Prime Minister Modi’s route by  ‘unknown  agitators’  in Punjab on January 05 is a very sinister attack on Indian democracy. Every political leader or a political party has a right to  reach out to Indian citizens at any time and at any place. But blocking his path to address a public rally in Ferozepur is an effort to deny a right to  reach out and communicate with Indian public  across Punjab border,  is an unpardonable act and  raises many questions.  Was it a political plan to disallow the Prime Minister of India to reach out and unfold  development projects for the border state? Was the ruling political party in the State in a non-cooperative mode,  due to forthcoming elections ? Were the anti-national  elements or forces from neighboring foreign country allowed to take over stage? As Ferozepur is a very sensitive town, just a few km from Pakistan border, such incidents would shake the mind of any right thinking citizen.  Was it just a logistic failure of  local police and PM’s security units to coordinate efficiently with each other and find a safe route for PM Modi to reach an important border town  Ferozepur ?

All the above questions need to be pondered over diligently  and answered  urgently.  Some Kisan leaders have denied their presence or motive to block the PM’s route  on January 05 from Bathinda to Ferozepur, as they have got most of their demands met by the Government of India. So, who were they at the site waiting for PM’s cavalcade reach at the flyover and were determined to block him from reaching the rally venue.  Was the state police not competent to identify the agitators and  dissuade them from organizing improper protest? As it appears agitators were an unorganized mob who could have  harmed the Prime Minister physically. There was no responsible leader among the protesters nor any top police  officer on the spot of protest. Top police officers from State should have ensured the Prime Minister of the Nation reaches his destination safely and unhindered. As his safety is their prime priority, instead of  fulfilling their political masters’ illogical intentions.

As it also unfolds the State Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi  was not present at Bathinda airport to receive the Prime Minister, who was visiting  Punjab to inaugurate some important development projects. It was an official visit of the PM. It was not an election rally at Ferozepur, which the PM was going to address. The Chief Minister and Chief Secretary’s absence at Bathinda helipad s not a good politics. So it somehow justifies AAP spokesman Raghav Chadha anointing the “chief minister Channi govt as  very week and useless”.

Even as we know, the Prime Minister’s travel routes are identified and alternatives worked out well in advance. the statements of  Congress leaders otherwise, are not justified.  The state police must have  surveyed the PM’s travel route  minutely and sanitized before giving go-ahead signal to his cavalcade, Security of the Senior-most Head of India’s Executive can’t be compromised like this.

Sinister attacks on Indian Democracy: This episode has signaled a dangerous design of  anti-democratic forces emerging in the country against recently. India has achieved Independence after a long struggle and sacrifices, and opted for a democratic system- ‘A Government by the People and For the People’.

So every citizen and each political party must ensure to give space to all possible ideologies within the Constitution of India, applied for the development of the Nation. Indian National Congress, which is the oldest political party in the country and has ruled India for most of the 75 years journey, must not allow itself be swayed by petty political ends. The Congress  should also not allow itself to be used by anti-India forces and cunning neighbors to take control of our decisions and future policies. It should also make sure; it has a cadre committed to India’s  best future and are trained for nothing else.

The Supreme Court of India is likely to take up petition on the lapse in PM’s security in Punjab.  It is not a healthy sign that the Supreme Court of India is required to intervene and  advise every time, in conducting the Executive decisions and  implementation of political process.
