Gandhi family keen on rehabilitating kith & kin of senior leaders’ responsible for 1984 Sikh genocide

Chandigarh, Dec 7: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday said the Gandhi family was hell bent on rehabilitating the kith and kin of senior leaders responsible for the 1984 Sikh genocide and said it had again sent a clear cut signal to the Sikh community that it would continue to patronize such elements by appointing Ajay Maken as the party’s Screening Committee Chairman for allotment of tickets to party candidates for the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab.
In a statement here, senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said it was shocking that while on the one hand charges were being framed in court against senior leader Jagdish Tytler, the Gandhi family had chosen to reward the family of Lalit Maken who had led mobs which pillaged Sikh properties and gurdwaras besides killing of Sikhs in the streets of Delhi.

“This is a true indicator of the concern the Gandhi family and the Congress high command has for the Sikhs and their sentiments”, he said while adding that the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties had nominated 227 persons responsible for leading the rampage against the Sikhs out of which Lalit Maken’s name was third on the list.
“This only proves beyond doubt that it is the policy of the Gandhi family to reward leaders who had massacred Sikhs at its command in 1984 to top posts again and again. Repeated protests of the Sikh community against this policy have not had any effect on the Gandhi family as can be seen by the recent elevation of another genocide perpetrator – Jagdish Tytler to a top level party committee in Delhi”.
Asking the Congress party as to what message it was sending to the Sikh community by making Ajay Maken the Chairman of the top most party Committee in Punjab, Mr Majithia said “the Congress party is bent upon spoiling communal peace in Punjab by resorting to such appointments. It is clear that the Gandhi family is following its old age policy of divide and rule by deliberately inflaming passions and creating a wedge among different sections of society”.
He also expressed surprise that neither chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi nor Home minister Sukhjinder Randhawa or Pradesh Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu had objected to Maken’s appointment. “It seems all these leaders are ready to jettison the interests of the Sikh community to safeguard their own respective turfs.
They also do not want to spoil their chances to grab the top post which is only possible through pure subservience to the Gandhi family. They have truly reached the nadir of opportunism and self-greed”.
He said the divisive politics of the Congress party would be rejected by the people who would stand behind the SAD due to its commitment to peace and communal harmony.
