CAG Murmu elected as External Auditor of the International Atomic Energy Agency
New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Girish Chandra Murmu has been elected as External Auditor of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna for a six year term from 2022 to 2027.
“The election was held on 23rd/24th September in the General Conference at IAEA Headquarters, Vienna where the CAG of India received majority support of the General Conference for this position for which several competing bids were submitted from different countries,” said a press release from the national auditor.
Murmu will take over from the incumbent External Auditor of IAEA, Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia.
“CAG’s appointment is a recognition of its standing among the international community as well as its professionalism, high standards, global audit experience and strong national credentials,” the release said.
Like any other international organization, the accounts and management operations of the IAEA are audited and reported upon periodically.
As the IAEA’s external auditor, CAG will conduct Financial, Compliance and Value for Money audits of IAEA.
The audit of IAEA will be conducted within the standards framework of International Standards on Auditing, Auditing guidelines issued by the Panel of External Auditors of the United Nations and Framework of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
CAG Murmu is currently the External Auditor of World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and Inter-Parliamentary Union.
