Varanasi : In a significant development, four individuals, including a key figure from the Gyanvapi case, were arrested in Varanasi for allegedly making irresponsible statements during prayers at the Mazar-Masjid in the UP College campus. The police acted on complaints filed by the college principal regarding the attempt to disturb communal harmony.

Among the arrested were Alawal, Mukhtar Ahmed (a resident of Lohia), and two other individuals, Afroz Khan, Adil Khan, and Feroz Khan. The police have filed a case against 12 individuals, following the statements that were reportedly made during the prayer, which could have potentially incited communal disharmony.

A formal complaint was lodged by the principal of UP College, Prof. Dharmendra Kumar Singh, who informed the police about the inflammatory statements and provided a YouTube link as evidence. Despite the fact that the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board had withdrawn its notice about the mosque in the college campus, the accused reportedly attempted to disrupt the peace.

DCP Varuna Zone, Chandrakant Meena, emphasized that anyone trying to disturb the peace would not be spared, as the police continue to monitor the situation.
