Tarn Taran DC’s PA and Clerk Caught Taking Bribe of ₹20,000
Vigilance Bureau apprehended two government officials while accepting
Tarn Taran (Punjab): In a significant operation, Punjab’s Vigilance Bureau arrested the Personal Assistant (PA) of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tarn Taran and a data entry operator for accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The duo was caught red-handed while taking the bribe. However, a third accused, allegedly part of the conspiracy, managed to escape before the Vigilance team could apprehend him.
Bribe Demand:
According to initial reports, the accused demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 from a complainant in exchange for clearing pending bills for videography services provided during the 2024 Lok Sabha election preparations. After negotiations, the deal was settled at ₹20,000.
Vigilance Action:
The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the Vigilance Bureau and reported the incident. Acting on the tip-off, the Bureau laid a trap and caught the PA and data entry operator while they were accepting the money. Efforts are underway to locate the third suspect who is currently absconding.
Legal Proceedings:
This case highlights ongoing efforts by Punjab’s Vigilance Bureau to tackle corruption within government departments. The Bureau has reassured the public that strict action will be taken against all individuals involved in such activities, irrespective of their positions.
