1899 – James Packard and his brother, William Doud Packard, finished building a car of their own design, and gave it a road test

1904 – Mohandas K. Gandhi arrested for leading Indian miners march in South Africa. Some years later, when he returned to India, once shy Gandhi was a fully-formed leader, supremely confident about his moral philosophy, and ready to take his country down the road to freedom.

1914 – The British land troops (mostly from the Indian Army) at the head of the Persian Gulf in Mesopotamia, and will begin to move westward in an attempt to draw Turkish troops from other fronts.

1950 – King Tribhuvana Bikram Shah of Nepal flees to India, due to internal  revolt. He wanted Nepal to merge with  India but  PM Nehru rejected the proposal, perhaps  he wanted Nepal to be an independent buffer state between India and China.

1962 – National Defence Council established.

1979 – Ayatollah Ali Khomeini takes over in Iran, deposing then king Mohammad Reza Shsah Pehlvi Shah..

2016 – Indian government declares levels of air pollution in Delhi an emergency situation, closing schools and construction sites.

1814 – Antoine-Joseph “Adolphe” Sax, a Belgian-French musical instrument designer, who took the name Adolphe, began creating new forms of musical instruments at age 15. He invented the saxophone.

1985 – Yuvika Choudhary, Bollywood actor who actedc in Om Shanti Om, Summer 2007, Toh Baat Pakki and a Kannada film etc.  She has won a Nach Baliye 9 award in 2015 and some other film awards. (pic credit-Pinterest).

1976 – David Marine, American pathologist whose substantial research on the treatment of goitre with iodine led to the iodising of table salt.  

1985 – Sanjeev Kumar (Haribhai Jariwala), very talented and  versatile Bollywood actor. He acted in Koshish, Parichay, Trishul, Devta,  Satyajit Ray’s  classic film  Shatranj Ke Khiladi,  Khilona, Naya Din Nayi Raat, Pati Patni Aur Voh, Ram Tere Kitne Naam,  Aandhi, Sholey,  Dastak, Mausam  etc. He was awarded 2Nationmal Awards, 4 Filmfare awards and several other honors.  (pics credit-IMDb,; Filmy Town; video- Goldmine Gaane  Sune Unsune).

Joint family system: The joint-family system is one of the basic features of Hindu social organisation. Hinduism being the primary practised religion in India, this system constitutes the majority of our family structures. In structure, the Joint Family it comprises a married man, his father, his grandfather and his collaterals within three generations. The different kinsmen along with their spouses and children occupy the same dwelling, eat and worship together, and enjoy property in common. Their respect for the wisdom and justice of the eldest male permits him and his spouse to render decisions which affect each and every member of the unit.”
