1894 – Daniel M. Cooper of Rochester, N.Y. received the first U.S. patent for a time clock.
1925 – The first television transmission was seen in London. John Baird built the transmitter in his attic from a tea chest, cardboard scanning discs, an empty biscuit box, old electric motors, darning needles, motorcycle lamp lenses, piano wire, glue, string, and sealing wax.
1938 – A radio broadcast of H. G. Wells “The War of the Worlds”, narrated by Orson Welles, allegedly causes a mass panic.
1958 – The first coronary angiogram was performed.
1986 – The first fibre-optic cable across the English Channel began service.
1992 – India and China decide to continue peace measures and open more points for border trade.
2000 – The 160-page CBI’s report on cricket match-fixing names Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja, Ajay Sharma, Manoj Prabhakar and former physiotherapist Dr. Ali Irani for their deep-rooted nexus with betting syndicates. It virtually gives a clean chit to Kapil Dev.
2018 – German ex-nurse Niels Högel admits in court to killing over 100 patients, making him one of the world’s worst serial killers.
2019 – Kashmir officially loses their autonomous status, their flag and their constitution, as India brings it under federal control.
2020 – New DNA study of dogs suggests they were human’s first domesticated animal, 11,000 years ago at end of the Bronze Age.
2022 – Pedestrian suspension bridge collapses into the River Macchu in Morbi town, Gujarat, killing 135 people.
2023 – US President President Joe Biden signs the country’s first AI executive order, with directives for US federal agencies use of AI.

1909 – Homi Jehangir Bhabha, an Indian physicist who is regarded as the father of the Indian nuclear power programme.
1952 – Dalip Tahil, theatre, TV and Bollywood actor. Knmown for roles in Baazigar, Adventures of Tarzen, QSQT, IB71, Raja, Sauda, Prem Quaidi and serials Buniyad, Samvidhan, Hostage etc. Was nominated to several film, TV awards.
1958 – Abhijeet Bhattacharya, singer who sings in Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Marathi, Tmil and Odiya languages. He won a Filmfare award in 1997 and many more. (pic credit-PME Entertainment).
RIP: -1893: Swami Dayanand Saraswati (name at birth-Mool Shankar). A world renowned Indian monk, author, religious teacher, who founded Arya Samaj in 1875. He wrote Satyarth Prakash and Tankara, where he got Bodhi, the incarnation of Vedic Truth. He died in Ajmer due to alleged piosoning.

Naming ceremonies: Many religious and cultural traditions have some form of ceremony surrounding the naming of a newborn. After all, everyone has to have a name, and names often carry spiritual significance. In Judaism, baby’s are often given both Hebrew and secular names. During the ceremony, the parents announce the name and its significance to them, and blessings are said to acknowledge that the child has entered into a covenant with God.
