Farmers’ Meeting with Punjab Ministers: Roads to Clear, Protests Continue
An important meeting was held in Phagwara between farmer leaders and government ministers.
Resolution of Road Blockages:
Kapurthala (Punjab): During the meeting, Punjab’s Food and Supply Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak and Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian discussed strategies to resolve the ongoing protests. It was agreed that farmers would begin to clear the roads they had blocked, a decision aimed at alleviating traffic disruptions while still maintaining their right to protest. The farmers expressed their willingness to ease road blockages, contingent upon satisfactory discussions regarding their demands.
Continued Protests:
While the farmers have agreed to remove road blockages, they affirmed that their protests would continue until their demands are fully met. The leaders emphasized that despite the easing of road blockages, they will persist with their demonstrations to ensure that their voices are heard and that the government addresses their concerns regarding paddy procurement policies and other issues affecting their livelihoods.
Government Requests Additional Time:
The Punjab government has requested a two-day period to review the farmers’ demands and provide a formal response. This request reflects the government’s intention to engage with the farmers and work towards a resolution that satisfies all parties involved. The farmers remain hopeful that this dialogue will lead to a constructive outcome, allowing them to resume their agricultural activities without the burden of protests.
