Introduction to community: Sikhs  often welcome new babies into their communities with  a great fanfare. Parents visit their local Gurdwara, or temple, with the baby as soon as possible following the birth, typically within forty days. At the Gurudwara, a priest opens the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikh faith, to a random page and reads a passage aloud. The family chooses a name by using the first letter of the hymn on the page opened. The baby’s name is then announced to the congregation. Afterwards  Kaddha  Prasad, a sweet dish made from flour, semolina, butter and sugar is distributed among the congregation as a celebratory treat.

In Hindus, this is done by the fraternity,  on 11th day of child’s birth, when Panchamrit is given to the child and his name is whispered into his ears and communicated to the Cumminity..
