1879 – Richard S. Rhodes invented the Audiophone, the first hearing aid.
1952 -1st closed circuit pay-TV telecast of a sports event.
1965 – The Indian Army secured the Kashmir Valley and the only object left was to clean out the remnants of the Gibraltar Force. Under the guidance of United Nations, the cease-fire came into effect.
1999 – India rejects Pakistan’s proposal for an international conference on arms control.
2017 – Women are allowed in King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh for the first time during Saudi Arabia’s 87th anniversary celebrations.
2018 – India launches “Modicare”, free heathcare for 500 million, world’s biggest healthcare programme.
2021 – Fossilized footprints 23,000-21,000 years old from White Sands, New Mexico indicate settlement by humans of North and South America earlier than previous thought .

1908 – Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’, poet and essayist. In recognition of his contribution to Hindi literature Dinkar was conferred with the Padma Bhushan and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1959, and the Bharatiya Jnanpith award in 1972).
1935 – Prem Chopra, Bollywood actor, mostly playing villain roles. Acted in Do Raaste, Bobby, Prem Nagar, Kati Patang, Dunia, Raja Babu Himmat, Do Anjane etc. Won Filmfare awards twice and was nominated once. Also awarded legend of Indian cinema in Atlanta City in 2004.
1943 – Tanuja Samarth, veteran Bollywood actor. Known for roles in Haathi Mere Saathi, Mere Jeevan Sathi, Do Chor, Jewel Thief, Jeene Ki Raah etc. She is the sister of legendary Nutan and mother of popular actress Kajol and Tanisha. She won nominations of Filmfare and Bengal Journalists Assn.
1957 – Kumar Sanu, famous playback singer. Known films songs in Baazigar, Dil Wale Dulhan Le Jayenge, A Love Story and Kaho Na Pyaar Hai etc. Was nominated to Filmfre awards 4 times.

1863 – Rao Tula Ram, Ahir King of Rewari (Haryana). Was one of the leaders of the war of 1857. Deposed British govt for a few days but had to retract because of some deceit. He tried to contact Afghanistan, Iran and Russia for help against the British but died due to stomach problem in Kabul at an age of 37.
1939 – Sigmund Freud, Austrian father of psychoanalysis, best known for such works as Interpretation of Dreams (1900) and the New Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis (1933).

Other methods of ancient Birth Control: A teaspoon of crushed seeds of this wild carrot has long been used as a form of birth control. It was found to disrupt the ovum implantation process and block the progesterone synthesis. The fruit of Kadamba added with one-fourth of honey in quantity, if taken for three days along with hot water, produces sterility in the woman, as also intake of rabbit’s blood during menses, or the period of fertilisation. Unripe papaya was also used to prevent or terminate pregnancy. Flowers of Jamun, ground with the urine of the cow are stated to cause sterility in the woman when taken during the time of menstruation. (The list is not exhaustive).
