India vs Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma and Team India Under Fresh Pressure

New challenges and high expectations renew pressure on Rohit Sharma and Team India

CHENNAI: Despite the recent ICC trophy win, the pressure is back on Rohit Sharma and Team India as they prepare for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Sharma, fully aware of the expectations and scrutiny, emphasized that a slip-up in this series could reignite criticism, regardless of their recent success.

Rohit Sharma, addressing the media ahead of the series opener on Thursday, acknowledged the relentless nature of Indian cricket’s pressure. “Winning an ICC trophy doesn’t mean we can relax. If we don’t win the bilateral series against Bangladesh, the negative talk will start again,” Sharma stated.

As India eyes a spot in the WTC Final, Sharma, now 37, recognizes that this might be his last opportunity to claim the title. “We have limited time to make an impact. We need to seize every opportunity,” he said.
The Indian captain also noted the changes in the team’s setup with Rahul Dravid replaced by Gautam Gambhir as head coach, along with a new support staff. Sharma expressed his readiness to adapt to the new coaching perspectives and methods.

Reflecting on past encounters with Bangladesh, Sharma maintained a focused approach, stating, “All teams want to beat India. Our job is to win the match and not get distracted by any external chatter.”
