2023 – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says “agents of the Indian government” carried out killing of a Sikh community leader, who advocated for Sikh separatism, in British Columbia in June. But could not provide any proof to India Govt.

1709 – Samuel Johnson. English, writer, poet, playwrite, biographer who influenved English literature as much as William ZShakespeare and Alexander Pope.

1906 – Kaka Hathrasi, popular humor, satire  and comedy poet. (Real Name -Prabhu Lal Garg), Wrote books like Kaka Ki Phuljhariyan, Kaki-Kaki Love Letters, Kaka ke Kartoons, Jai Bolo Baiman Ki, Kaka Chaupai, Best of Kaka Hathrasi, Kaka Ke Chutkule etc. Was awarded Padam Shri in 1985

1950 – Shabana Azmi, Bollywood actor, daughter of famous Urdu lyricist Kaifi Azmi and married to famous screenwriter Javed Akhtar. Has acted in Ankur, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Arth, Swami, Masoom, Fire, Amar Akbar Anthony, Ghoomar, Makdi, Avtaar, Godmother, Pass  etc.  Was awarded National Film award twice, IIFA,  Cine Awards once and  Filmfare Awards  5 times.

1985- Nandini Vaid, Bollywood actor. Known for roles in horror films like The Horror Story, Hello Bollywood, Kabhie Khana Meri Gali etc.  Won an ITA award in 2001.

1993 – Patrick Schwarzenegger,  son of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jewish American  fashion model, actor. Known for Benchwarmers, Grown Up 2, The Staircase, Midnight Son, The Wrestlert, Gen V etc.

RIP….

1958 – Dr. Bhagwan Das, great philosopher, freedom fighter, Hindi writer, politician and litterateur. Was a member of Central Legislative Assembly, Member of Theosophical Society founded by Annie Besant and opposed  philosophy of Jiddu Krishnamurthy.  Wrote 30 Books on Indian culture and religion, in Hindi and Sanskrit,  including the Pranava-Vada of Gargyayana,   a translation dictated by a Blind saint to him,  published by  him later. Also founded Central Hindu College (School)  and Kashi Vidya Peeth. Was honored with Bharat Ratna in 1955.

1995 – Kaka Hathrasi, as above – he died on his birthday).

Atithi Devo Bhavah: In India, the saying “Atithi Devo Bhavah” is also integral. It means “the guest is equivalent to god”.
