However, His Party’s MLA Calls for Special Session to Address the Issue

AAP MLA Calls for Special Assembly Session to Discuss 2015 Sacrilege Cases and Police Firing
Chandigarh: AAP MLA and former IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh has demanded a special session of the Punjab Assembly to address the 2015 sacrilege cases and the police firing incidents at Kotkapura. He also seeks a detailed discussion on the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) report.

During Wednesday’s zero hour in the Assembly, Singh stated, “On August 28, 2018, the state withdrew these cases from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and assigned them to an SIT, of which I was a member. Six years later, there has been no discussion on the police firing incidents at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura. This issue involves religious sacrilege, and I propose that the Assembly extend its session by one day to thoroughly discuss this matter.” Singh also referenced the September 2015 Akal Takht decision to pardon the Dera Sacha Sauda chief for the 2007 blasphemy and its subsequent withdrawal.

Singh criticized the previous Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress governments, asserting, “The people of Punjab deserve to know which flawed investigation led to the high court dismissing the SIT’s report on police firing. The truth will emerge once the report is examined clause by clause in the Assembly.” He also questioned why a prominent political strategist hired by former CM Capt Amarinder Singh quit in 2021 without any detailed analysis.
Singh, one of the state’s former top officers, accused the two other police members of the SIT of failing to maintain a case diary during the inquiry, leaving the documentation to him. He challenged the state to investigate why these officers did not keep records and why two additional SITs were formed after his departure. Singh suggested that those politicians responsible for mishandling the investigation should be held accountable.
