Herath in Kashmir: : Also known as Shivratri. This festival is celebrated for three days with the devotion levels peaking exponentially in the households during these days as compared to any other festival in the year.
The first day involves filling up of three big earthen pots with water and walnuts. There are other smaller pots too. The walnuts are an integral part of any Kashmiri custom and symbolise the wisdom of the vedas. These pots are collectively called ‘vatuk’ and symbolise Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha.
