Delhi finance minister Atishi wants Rs 10,000 crore for infrastructure.

AtishiNew Delhi: Delhi Finance Minister Atishi requested on Friday that the Centre allocate Rs 10,000 crore, less than 5% of Delhi’s Rs 2.07 lakh crore income tax contribution last year, for infrastructure development in the national capital before the Union budget.

She said the government received nothing last year despite its Rs 2 lakh crore income tax payment. Central GST from Delhi added Rs 25,000 crore to the tax pool, the minister said.

The people of Delhi expect the state to develop properly, she remarked. Part of the tax goes to the government, including GST, VAT, and others.

The minister said city residents contributed Rs 35,000 crores in taxes to the Delhi government last year to provide 24-hour free electricity, free healthcare treatment, and to develop and maintain roads and flyovers.

“But Delhi residents pay taxes to both the government and the Centre. Delhi pays one of the most income taxes to the Centre. The Centre received Rs 2.07 lakh crore in income tax and GST from Delhi residents last year. It was Rs 25,000 crore last year. The central government received Rs 2.32 lakh crore in taxes, she added.
