Building fire kills seven in Nice city in Southern France

A fire that started overnight in a high-rise building in a poor area of Nice, France is spreading quickly.

NICE: Seven people were killed early Thursday morning in a fire that started overnight in a private building in a working-class area of the city of Nice in southern France.

Helpers were called to the fire in Les Moulins at 2:30 am (00:30 GMT), but the cause of the fire is still unknown. Even though a lot of help was sent, responders said, “Unfortunately seven people died during this fire.”

Two other people were taken to the hospital as “relative emergencies,” and one person was taken there as a “absolute emergency.”

Police and firefighters said they were faced with a “violent apartment fire” on the seventh floor of the building. They did three overhead ladder rescues and got a lot of people out of harm’s way.

There were 25 fire trucks and 72 firefighters working to put out the fire.
