48 pilgrims trapped in Tractor-Trolly collision in Kanpur

PM condoles Kanpur incident, announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each

New Delhi: In a tragic accident near Kanpur 26 pilgrims were killed, when their vehicles collided.  The pilgrims were returning home after Navaratra puja in a Devi temple when a speeding tractor crashed head-on and fell into a pond on the roadside. Over 20 have been reported injured in the accident and are admitted to a nearby hospital. Local residents complain of the delay in the arrival of rescue teams. CM Yogi ordered local administration to provide best treatment to the injured as also announced ex-gratia sanctions to the victims.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister have expressed grief over the Kanpur incident on Saturday evening. PM has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each deceased.
The PMO India tweeted, “Distressed by the tractor-trolley mishap in Kanpur. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. Prayers with the injured. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected.”
It tweeted, “Ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of each of the deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have also expressed grief over the incident.
Shah tweeted, “The road accident in Kanpur, UP is very sad and heart-wrenching. The local administration is providing treatment to the injured. I express my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this incident for this irreparable loss. May God give strength to his family to bear this loss.”
Rajnath tweeted, “The road accident in Kanpur district of UP is heart-wrenching. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in this. Also wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident. The local administration is busy in all possible help.” (UNI)
