Hemant set to take oath as 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand
Earlier in the day, leaders and MLAs of the ruling coalition at a meeting at Champai Soren’s residence here unanimously decided to elect Hemant Soren as the JMM legislature party leader.
RANCHI: In a major political development in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Champai Soren on Wednesday resigned from his post. Immediately after the resignation,
JMM Executive President Hemant Soren staked his claim to form the government. Now, merely after five months of resigning from the post, Hemant Soren is all set to return as 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
This will be Hemant Soren’s third term as Chief Minister. Soren, however, has to wait for sometime as the date for taking oath
has not been given by the Governor so far.
Meanwhile, Champai Soren is likely to be appointed as Chairman of the UPA coordination committee and as the working president of JMM. Champai Soren stated that he resigned voluntarily as Hemant Soren is back from jail.
“It is a matter of our alliance…Earlier, a change of guard was done in the state and I was given the responsibility…You all are aware of the developments which took place after that…now Hemant Soren is back…and the alliance partners took a decision and chose Hemant Babu as our leader once again,” said Champai Soren on his way out of the Raj Bhawan. Champai Soren also assured that the alliance remains intact and his resignation was voluntary.
