Amritsar : The Amritsar police rescued two Sri Lankan nationals from kidnappers who had posed as visa agents promising work visas to Albania. The victims, Kanishka and Sumardhan, were part of a group of six Sri Lankans who had arrived in India seeking employment opportunities in Europe.
The two fake agents, Ankit (22) from Kapurthala and Inderjit Singh (23) from Jalandhar Rural, were arrested after the kidnapping on December 29. The accused had taken $3,000 from the victims, claiming they could secure work visas for them.
The police acted swiftly, rescuing the two men from Hoshiarpur the next day. The kidnappers had threatened to kill the victims and demanded 8,000 euros for their release, after making a video call to the other members of the group.
The group had entered India on valid travel visas and were introduced to the fraudsters by a Sri Lankan national in Delhi. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the arrests, noting that Inderjit Singh had a criminal record, including cases under the Arms Act and NDPS Act.
