Bathinda: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann along with his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday handed over a check of Rs 1 crore to the family of Amrik Singh. Singh was martyred while serving the Indian Army. According to an official release, Mann said that Amrik Singh was martyred while serving the motherland during his deployment in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Singh was a resident of Jhanduke village here. He said that in honor of the martyr’s sacrifice, financial assistance is being given to his family.

Reiterating the state government’s firm commitment to help the families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the service of the motherland, Mann said that this is the utmost duty of the Punjab government. Kejriwal and Mann handed over a check of Rs 1 crore to martyr’s father Gurjant Singh. Delhi Chief Minister praised the Punjab government for recognizing the sacrifice of soldiers for the country.

Kejriwal said the Mann-led state government is providing Rs 1 crore as financial assistance to the families of all military personnel martyred during service. He said this is in sharp contrast to the central government’s Agniveer scheme, which ‘humiliates’ the families of martyred soldiers as they are not being given even a single penny of financial assistance or proper respect. Both the Chief Ministers are also likely to participate in the ‘Vikas Kranti’ rally here.
