NTPC successfully commissions 660-MW unit of NPGC
Plant to cater power to states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Sikkim.
Patna, Mar 6: The third and final Unit of Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC) successfully completed its 72-hour full load trial run operations on Sunday with total compliance to Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) norms. The Successful Completion of full load trial run operation means, the third and final unit of NPGC is officially ready for commercial generation and would add electricity up to 660 MW to the beneficiary states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Sikkim. With this, the total generation capacity of NPGC would go up to 1980 MW from 1320 MW at present. The latest unit entailed an expenditure of Rs.19,412 crores. Bihar will get 84.8 percent share – 559 MW – of the electricity generated from the Nabinagar power plant, The rest would be allocated to UP, Jharkhand and Sikkim from this Unit. “This is the third and final 660 MW environment-friendly supercritical technology-based unit of NPGC which has entered into commissioning activities after successful Trial Operation (TO) on Sunday, presently 660 MW Unit 1 and 2 have already attained commercial operation status on September 6, 2019 and July 23, 2021 respectively from which Bihar is presently getting 1122 MW of electricity.” NTPC spokesperson, Vishwanath Chandan said. “With the successful commissioning of NPGC’s Unit 3, an addition of 559 MW would be added to the power capacity of Bihar. It means total power allocation from NPGC to Bihar would also reach to 1683 MW. Bihar’s power share from NTPC would also Iincrease to 5921 MW from the present allocation of 5362 MW from NTPC plants including 6 generating plants of Bihar”, Chandan added.
